I Deserve to Be Happy

drama-masks

Low self-esteem and little or no self-worth are characteristic of depressed women. Their mistaken belief that they do not deserve to be happy can lead to a self-fulfilling prophecy. When bad things happen, women may feel guilt for having brought about these unfortunate circumstances. It is illogical to think that people always get what they deserve in life. Therefore, women should not judge their self-worth by their circumstances. Women should remind themselves daily that they deserve to be happy in order to break free from their negative thoughts.

What Makes an Affirmation Work

splitI spend a lot of time and effort finding, meditating on and sharing different types of affirmations or self help quotes.  It is my belief that a positive thought, managed correctly can change your emotional, mental and even physical being.  So I thought it might be helpful to share how to get the most out of an affirmation.  Ya know, why do something, if you don’t do it the best you can!

So for the purposes of this blog, and in the context of healing, I’m going to define affirmations as a unique combination of all the definitions I’ve heard

A positive declaration, action or assertion that you project, which encapsulates a desired state of being. Expressed in the present tense, an affirmation is absorbed by the conscious and subconscious mind and over time can change your mental, emotional and physiological state.

While we may wish that the road to improved health through affirmations was a straight and easy path, this is not the case. Purging old habits and thought patterns takes practice, perseverance and patience. As you travel down the road to your goal: there are a few areas that you must master to see any progress at all and that are important if you really want to maximize your efforts. These can be broken into 10 keys points listed below:

  1. Acknowledgement
  2. Acceptance
  3. Introspection
  4. Forgiveness
  5. Accountability
  6. Physical, Spiritual and Mental Cleansing
  7. Patience and Self Love
  8. Setting Boundaries
  9. Outreach/Rebuilding Trust
  10. Upkeep

These 10 keys are vital to the success of any healing regimen, not just affirmations. In this and in the following blogs, I will share my ideas on each key in detail and how to implement it in your life.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a funny thing. It warms the heart and cools the sting.

Guard your thoughts

thougt

“Be vigilant;  guard your mind against negative thoughts.”

By :  Buddha

“If you think something, you give it life.”  You know it’s true.   Letting a thought ramble through your mind, dwelling on something that has happened, and/or writing or speaking something will bring the emotions and energy of that thought come to life.  It will overshadow your day.  It will guide your decisions and refocus your energies.

I struggle with this daily.  If I did not consciencely put an effort forward every morning to think of something positive, my days would be spent drowning in negative thoughts, pity and frustration.  I would find it difficult to smile, to enjoy any aspect of my life.  Depression would be a daily partner.

So every morning I start the day with a inspirational or motivational though and share that thought through out the day.  I sing a fun song in the car on the way to work.  I find something that day to look at and really smile or giggle about.  It’s a job;  it’s a routine; it’s necessary.

I’ve been writing this blog for a while now.   Please let me know what you think.  Having a difficult time finding a reason to continue.

Creativity

thirst.

“Tapping creativity when you have a mood disorder is like trying to quench your thirst…

Sometimes magic gushes forth and threatens to overflow; other times it drips and trickles— or doesn’t flow at all…

Many of us believe these experiences occur more frequently and more intensely for those of us with mood disorders.”

Thoughts on Motivation

People often say that motivation doesn’t last.

Well, neither does bathing

– that’s why we recommend it daily.

When mentioning the topic of motivational quotes, I usually get a wide range of responses with most of them landing in the they’re silly, they’re useless, they’re stupid category.  It is my belief that these responses come from the people who either do not use motivational quotes at all or use them once a millennium.

Starting each day with a positive goal or focus, leads to success.  It helps lay the groundwork for a good day.  If you consistently practice a positive action, you can’t help but be successful at what you do.

“Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four hour days.”
Zig Ziglar

I start every day with a positive thought of some kind.   It puts a smile on my face and gives me a positive thought to carry through the day.  I usually have a successful day.  And I find it easier to end my day, most of the time, still with a smile.

“You are what you are and you are where you are because of what has gone into your mind. You change what you are and you change where you are by changing what goes into your mind.”
