What Makes an Affirmation Work

splitI spend a lot of time and effort finding, meditating on and sharing different types of affirmations or self help quotes.  It is my belief that a positive thought, managed correctly can change your emotional, mental and even physical being.  So I thought it might be helpful to share how to get the most out of an affirmation.  Ya know, why do something, if you don’t do it the best you can!

So for the purposes of this blog, and in the context of healing, I’m going to define affirmations as a unique combination of all the definitions I’ve heard

A positive declaration, action or assertion that you project, which encapsulates a desired state of being. Expressed in the present tense, an affirmation is absorbed by the conscious and subconscious mind and over time can change your mental, emotional and physiological state.

While we may wish that the road to improved health through affirmations was a straight and easy path, this is not the case. Purging old habits and thought patterns takes practice, perseverance and patience. As you travel down the road to your goal: there are a few areas that you must master to see any progress at all and that are important if you really want to maximize your efforts. These can be broken into 10 keys points listed below:

  1. Acknowledgement
  2. Acceptance
  3. Introspection
  4. Forgiveness
  5. Accountability
  6. Physical, Spiritual and Mental Cleansing
  7. Patience and Self Love
  8. Setting Boundaries
  9. Outreach/Rebuilding Trust
  10. Upkeep

These 10 keys are vital to the success of any healing regimen, not just affirmations. In this and in the following blogs, I will share my ideas on each key in detail and how to implement it in your life.

I love affirmations but I’ve found they don’t work very well because when we say an affirmation that’s not true for us in that moment we get a ‘tail-ender’. Our back talk reminds us that our subconscious knows it’s not true.
Unfortunately we may not be aware of this back talk or we may just ignore it.
The law of attraction says that whatever we put our attention on, that’s what we manifest. So if we’re getting this tail-ender then our attention is on this rather than the affirmation.
There is a wonderful remedy for this and I talk about it on my site. Click on my name to get to my site. You’ll see a section on affirmations from my affirmations tab. You’ll also see a section on EFT.
EFT enables us to eliminate the tail-ender.
I’m so glad you wrote this post because it reminds me that it would be good to write a page specifically on this subject and tie them both together. On my main affirmations page I do mention EFT but it would be good to have a page specifically on this topic.
    🙂
So by tapping on the EFT tapping points whilst saying the affirmations we enable our tail-ender to be eliminated thus enabling us to focus on the positive affirmations and thus manifesting whatever we are affirming.
Louise Hay has recently been introduced to EFT and she loves it.

Yes but Louise and others have had affirmations work for them without EFT, her publishing company published an eft book so of course she would endorse it.

Yes, you’re right on both counts. However , because tapping on the meridian end points whist repeating the affirmations eliminate the back talk, the whole process is speeded up greatly. I don’t understand why you are refuting my comment. Have you tried doing it?
